About Me
My Background
Born in Derby England, Maurice “Mauri” apprenticed as a sign writer. After immigrating to Toronto Canada following his passion for fishing, he found himself on the West Coast and calling North Vancouver Home. Employed by Wallace Neon products in the early days, clearly he had a desire to be near the water and eventually he found his paint brush meeting the tranquil art of boat and yacht lettering. Known internationally for his work with a signature of a M artfully scripted into the silhouette of a seagull.
Mauri has always been best known for his art on the water, but his talents didn’t end there, his passion also fell to the canvas. Capturing sea and landscapes reflecting on england and our west coast.
My Medium
I use many different mediums, such as clay, acrylics, and pastels. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
My Inspiration
I enjoy hiking in my spare time and many of my pieces are directly influenced by these hikes in nature. I love recreating plants and wildlife in my work.
